Who is Responsible for Safeguarding?
The short answer is . . . everybody.
Worcestershire County Council, as the local authority, has coordinating responsibility for safeguarding in the County and any safeguarding concerns must be reported to the authority. However, it is people in our local communities, people like you, that are responsible for making someone aware when abuse is suspected.
People can often feel uncertain about how to raise a concern, sometimes they think it may be quite difficult, they worry about making things worse or even that it is none of their business.
The truth is raising concerns are welcomed, it is far better to share your concern for somebody, enabling the person to be protected from the possible risk of harm.
The reporting of suspected abuse or neglect is actually very easy but it can change somebody’s world.
